Operation Christmas Child, a project by international relief organization Samaritan's Purse, aims to deliver shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies to children affected by war, poverty, natural disasters, famine, and disease worldwide, as well as those living on Native American reservations in the U.S.
Established in the United Kingdom in 1990 by Dave and Jill Cooke, the project has since partnered with Samaritan's Purse and expanded its reach, delivering gift-filled shoeboxes to over 209 million children in more than 170 countries and territories. These shoebox gifts, distributed by local ministry partners, demonstrate God's love and serve as a powerful tool for sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. Many children receiving the gifts are invited to enroll in The Greatest Journey, a 12-lesson discipleship program that fosters long-term relationships between ministry partners, children, and families, ultimately promoting evangelism, discipleship, and the growth of believers.
2023 at Berea Bible Church
At Berea Bible Church, our 2023 goal for the Operation Christmas Child program is to actively engage our congregation in assembling and distributing 500 shoebox gifts filled with essential items and love, with the possibility of an additional 100 boxes packed by individual Berea families and friends. By doing so, we aim to make a meaningful impact on the lives of underprivileged children globally, spread the Good News of Jesus Christ, and foster long-lasting relationships with local ministry partners.
Shoeboxes will be available for pickup in October, and we invite you to join us in this endeavor to send the Gospel to a child around the world, contributing to their spiritual growth and that of their communities.
